I specialize in working with students in college, educators, people in helping professionals, and young parents. My clients desire someone who can support them in their goals, who listens well, and sees them through a holistic perspective. My clients understand that healing is a process and desire to live a wholehearted life but often feel stuck or find them repeating patterns they can't break. Often people that contact me are in need of support, skills, and a space to navigate the stress and unexpected things that inevitably come in life and partnership. I have been a school social worker for many years, so I bring my experience to help you navigate your life and professional transitions. I approach clients with a person-centered, strength-based, holistic approach. I can help facilitate communication with your partner and help you increase your insight and understanding of yourself. I offer a non-judgmental space with the goal of empowering my clients to guide themselves to health and wholeness. When you are ready and willing, I would be honored to walk this part of your life with you. You can contact me through my website (theflourshingco.org/contact-us) or give my office a call. I look forward to our work together.

Hello my name is Maureen, and I’m a licensed clinical social worker with 20 years of psychotherapy experience, and everyone is welcome in my practice. I live in Lapeer County, Michigan and have strong ties to Detroit and surrounding area. My therapy practice is via telehealth. I’ve worked with people who have had a wide range of challenges and who needed the help of a compassionate and skilled therapist. Because of my many years of working with a very diverse population of people, I’ve been able to create a very eclectic style that I believe takes the best of each therapy model and am able to create a very tailored treatment for each person who allows me to help them on their journey. I help people to recognize and utilize their strengths and believe that people have the best answers for themselves and need to learn how to find them and use them for their continued growth. I love using interventions that combine supportive and goal directed strategies as well as focusing on the mind-body connection. My favorite form of therapy is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. I’m also trained in Attachment Therapy, EMDR, CBT and many others. I’ve always invested a lot of time and energy into improving my skills for the benefit of my clients, so I frequently attend continuing education seminars and conferences. I’m an Open Path provider (for people who need to pay based on their ability to afford it). I'm also a Give an Hour provider and donate pro-bono services for our military, veterans and their families. I value the opportunity to help everyone get the therapy that they need.

One of the things I love most about being a therapist is getting to witness people grow into the fullest, most authentic version of themselves. It’s incredibly meaningful to walk alongside someone as they work through challenges, uncover new insights, and build a life that feels more manageable, intentional, and aligned with who they really are. Watching that progress unfold — from the first session to the breakthroughs along the way — is a privilege I never take for granted. In our sessions, you can expect a space that’s centered around you. I always begin by inviting you to share whatever’s been on your mind lately. I find that when we don’t start there, the thoughts or worries closest to the surface can sometimes get in the way of our deeper work. But if you’re not sure what to talk about or nothing specific is coming up that day, that’s totally okay — I’ll guide us back to the goals you’ve set for therapy or revisit what we’ve been working on. My approach is person-centered, which means you get to lead the way and I’ll meet you there with support and structure. When I describe therapy to people in everyday language, I often say it has two layers. The first is what I call the band-aid approach — where I help you build tools and coping strategies that provide immediate relief. Whether you’re managing anxiety, navigating a conflict, or simply feeling overwhelmed, we’ll work on practical ways to feel better right now. From there, we’ll gently dig deeper into the “why” and the “how” — exploring what’s really going on beneath the surface so we can create long-term change. It’s about building a system in your life that helps you respond more effectively to challenges, emotions, or patterns of behavior. I deeply believe that each person’s story is shaped by their unique life experiences, cultural background, family dynamics, relationships, and more. These influences often play a big role in how we view the world and how we respond to stress or conflict. In therapy, I’ll help you make sense of those influences while also working through whatever issues are most present in your life right now. Healing happens when you’re ready for it — not when someone else tells you it’s time.

In my 25 years of clinical work, the majority of my clients want to solve a problem(s) or gain control of their life. Seeking out therapy can be difficult for a multitude of reasons. Reaching out to a therapist is similar to reaching out to a physician, chiropractor or physical therapist; healing! In therapy, you decide the goals you want to reach. I can assist you in determining your goals, if you're not sure of the starting point. The choice is yours! I'm trained in multiple therapies, modalities and wholistic care. I utilize a mix to assist clients in their problem solving/healing process. I specialize in trauma/PTSD, dementia, addictions and cancer. I also work with anxiety, depression, life stressors (work, family, school, health), chronic pain and life transition/adjustments. Life is like a beach, it's different everyday. The sand shifts, the waves vary in size & intensity and the weather is out of our control. We can choose to take a walk, search for rocks, swim, kite surf or bask in the sun. Learn how to ride the waves of life and be the captain of your ship. Choose your journey.

The inherent dignity and worth of every individual are guiding principles in the advocacy and counseling support I’ve helped develop with people for over 25 years. Challenges we all encounter can overwhelm our regular functioning and cause pain that distracts and obscures access to genuine joy and plans we all have for our best selves and relationships. Using evidence-based practices and focusing on self-determination, I listen and assist individuals with stabilizing their day-to-day functioning so they can plan and get closer to where they want to be in life and their relationships. I began here in East Lansing at the Listening Ear as a Crisis and Sexual Assault Counselor while in graduate school, and still sincerely value active listening and problem-solving. I’m a licensed clinical social worker, certified Michigan teacher and academic consultant. I’ve primarily worked with adults and youth in both clinical, high school and post-secondary settings.
