Therapists for college students near New York University
As a clinical psychologist, I specialize in work with depression, difficulties relating to trauma and anxiety, and with gender identity and sexuality. My goal is to help you to feel less suffering and to experience a more fulfilling life. A good experience in therapy involves both psychologist and patient. Together, we'll focus on the impacts of low mood, anxiety, low self esteem, or whatever is getting in the way of your lifeāand how to help you to overcome these obstacles. I have experience working with adolescents and adults who are struggling with a variety of concerns, as well as with those who are GNC or queer. In my clinical work, I use evidence-based practices for conditions such as major depressive disorder, social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In my academic role at Bard College, I study and teach on the impacts of mood disorders, trauma, and depressive thought. (I do not usually see current Bard College students.)
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years of experience working with children, teens, young adults, and parents in medical and community settings. My approach is integrative, compassionate, and collaborative, incorporating a wide range of modalities including psychodynamic therapy, solution-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.

College can bring pressure, transition, and a sense of disconnection from yourself or others. Many students struggle with anxiety, eating concerns, mood shifts, or feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to change alone. I work with students to understand whatās underneath these experiences and to build a steadier, more grounded way of navigating life.

Finding a therapist can feel more overwhelming than continuing to bear the weight of stress and anxiety alone. Questions of identity, difficulty finding meaning, and navigating lifeās transitions can often feel insurmountable on your own. Wondering if youāre going to show up to meet a therapist only to be judged, invalidated, or minimized can make you want to stop the search before you even start. My goal is to provide you with a warm and nonjudgmental space to explore and join with you in the healing process as you navigate the stressors that you are experiencing. I practice through a trauma informed lens and also consider the structures and systems that impact us. I incorporate feminist and liberation psychologies into my work. In partnering together, we can both accelerate the process of insight and change, and also gain more meaningful insights than through self-inquiry alone. I welcome patients from minoritized groups and have broad experience working with patients from diverse backgrounds. I aim to provide an inclusive environment for all people regardless of their gender identity, gender expression, or sexual orientation.

That question led me into forensic psychology, where I spent 10 years treating sexual offenders, individuals widely despised by society. Over time, I realized that preventing future harm required helping offenders understand the origins of their actions. Few psychologistsāespecially survivors who fully grasp the impactāchoose this path. But I knew that without effective treatment, the cycle continues. My mission became clear: NO MORE VICTIMS. ______ Holly A. Silva, Psy.D. Licensed Clinical Psychologist CT | NY | VA š 860-222-4211 š§ drhollysilva@gmail.com

College is a time of real growth ā and real pressure. For many students, it's also when questions about identity, mental health, and how they move through the world come into sharper focus. I work with college students who are navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, identity exploration, trauma history, or the particular exhaustion that comes with being neurodivergent in demanding academic environments. Many of the young adults I work with are autistic, ADHD, or both ā and are often doing so without the scaffolding that got them through high school. Others are transgender or gender-diverse, and are figuring out who they are while managing minority stress, family dynamics, and systems that don't always make things easy. My approach is relational and collaborative. I don't follow a rigid protocol ā I draw from ACT, DBT, and CBT, and I tailor what we do to who you are and what you actually need. Sessions are a place to build insight, develop real skills, and figure out how to live more fully as yourself. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist with advanced training in gender-diverse care, trauma, and neurodevelopment. Before opening my practice, I spent two years at Yale's Pediatric Gender Program and completed my doctoral internship at Yale School of Medicine. I keep my caseload focused so I can do this work with the depth it deserves. Sessions are available via telehealth across Connecticut and New York, and in person in Southington, CT ā which may be convenient for students at nearby colleges and universities. I also see adolescents and teens, so referrals for younger clients are welcome. I'm happy to connect with counseling center staff to discuss fit, coordination of care, or consultation. The best way to reach me is through my website or by phone.
