Therapists for college students near New York University
I am a Clinical Social Worker in New York State. I specialize in treating anxiety and depression in adolescents and adults using evidence based methods such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Our college years are one of the best years of my life. It was a time where I experienced a major shift in the way I saw the world and reframed many of my lived experiences. College was also one of the most stressful times in my life. The deadlines, the professors who didn't care I had other classes to study for, the part-time work and wok study...so many all nighters. And somehow making time to be social. All of these things make uo the college experience but I realized, many years later, that some things, such as the constant worrying about deadlines, the panic sweat waiting for my professors to give me feedback, and the fact I typically slept four hours a day, were not normal things I should have "pushed through" as I often told myself those days. I wished someone had been there to tell me to step back and take care of myself more. Now, as a therapist, I hope I can be the person who helps get you through the dualities that is your college years.

Are you a resilient person who is struggling? Have you lived through a recent traumatic event or had a stressful childhood, and find yourself frequently stuck in self-destructive patterns and relationships? Is adjusting to college life causing you to feel anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed and just plain burnt out? Or have you experienced a sexual assault and don't know how to deal with it? Adjusting to college is a significant life transition and it's not always clear what to do next. Finding confidence in your own voice and abilities, and clarity about your own needs can be difficult when you've been through stressful experiences. I'm here to guide you back to yourself, offer you some coping skills, help you clarify your life direction and reach your goals. I specialize in working with professionals in the performing arts and other creative fields, as well as those who want to enter them. I also work frequently with people in the helping professions and social justice oriented fields. My approach is informed by my own life experience as a former professional dancer in the American Ballet Theatre, and by the study of meditation and yoga. I have been in the social work field since graduating from Hunter College School of Social work 2004. In addition to talk therapy, I use mindfulness techniques like meditation, guided visualizations, as well as attention to body sensations to help you identify and begin to move through where you get blocked. I am also trained in EMDR and utilize that technique to help people heal from trauma and other stressful experiences. **Will be out of office July 11-.**

Kelsey is a master of social work who works primarily with young adults experiencing life changes, relationships issues, grief, trauma, and depression and anxiety. She has a particular passion for helping people improve their self-understanding to strengthen platonic and romantic relationships, increase self-compassion, and to identify personal values and learn to live by them. Kelsey incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, but makes sure to tailor her sessions to the individual first and foremost. Before becoming a therapist, Kelsey had a career in advertising and marketing working for consumer brands and tech companies. Kelsey seeks to create a safe and welcoming experience for her clients. She knows how to address immediate stressors and concerns, while keeping long-term healing goals at the forefront. She is welcoming of people of all identities and backgrounds, inclusive of the LGBTQIA+ community.
With 15 years’ experience as a bilingual Psychotherapist working with very diverse populations from adults to adolescents who experience depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD I learned that not everyone feels comfortable going to speak to a therapist in a traditional setting like an office. This is why I offer “Walk Talk Therapy” and mobile therapy. I want to eliminate as many barriers as possible for you to get the help you need. Hi, I’m Helena Chang, a second-year clinical master’s student of social work. My approach is all about understanding the “why” behind the challenges you’re facing. By exploring your environment, past experiences, and childhood, we’ll uncover patterns and gain insight into what’s shaping your thoughts and emotions. This self-awareness becomes the foundation for meaningful growth and change. Once we’ve built that understanding, we’ll work together to develop tools and skills that feel practical and empowering for you. I like to mix in strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to make sure we’re not just reflecting, but also taking action to help you feel more confident and in control. My goal is to create a space where you feel comfortable, supported, and understood. We’ll work as a team to help you grow, heal, and move toward the life you want. Helena Chang is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. Sol Health is a digital health startup that offers $30 therapy to Gen Zs by connecting them with therapists-in-training accruing clinical hours.
