Hello and welcome! I am a licensed marriage & family therapist. I worked with clients in the La Jolla/San Diego area for many years before moving across the country to Florida. I currently serve California, Colorado, and Florida-based clients via secure video counseling. I work with individuals, couples, and families to help each person resolve problems, to create more satisfying relationships, and to live more fulfilling and meaningful lives. I specialize in treating anxiety disorders, couples conflict, substance abuse, eating disorders, chronic illness, and pre-marital issues, but I also have experience helping people through a wide range of other problems that may be bothering them (please see "Services Provided" for more detailed information). My approach is mostly collaborative - I believe that my clients should have options when choosing what type of therapy treatment they feel is best for them. I also, when appropriate, will work closely with a client's healthcare providers as part of the treatment. This way, my clients have additional support as we work through challenges. I absolutely love working as a therapist! Nothing gives me more satisfaction than saving a marriage, increasing the bonds of love between family members, or helping someone overcome an addictive pattern and find new meaning in their life. I work best with clients who may appear to have it together on the outside while internally feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted. Many are navigating trauma, OCD, mood changes, identity exploration, or relationship stress. I especially enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients and those looking for an authentic, supportive, and nonjudgmental space to better understand themselves and heal.

We are a small private practice located in Fort Collins, CO who treat individuals struggling with depression and/or anxiety. These conditions include a variety of symptoms including feelings of sadness, loss of motivation, low energy, isolation, feeling worthless, disruption to appetite or sleep, racing thoughts, over-thinking, worry, nervousness, and panic attacks. Due to these symptoms, the ability to function normally is impacted, and many of our clients are having difficulty in school and in their relationships. We use an evidence- based treatment called Cognitive Behavior Therapy to address symptoms and help our clients feel better. We work well with individuals who are motivated to make changes and implement the tactics they learn in between sessions. Please visit our website for more information: evolvecounselingnoco.com
As a trauma-informed therapist, my work centers on identity, healing, and relational transformation for adults working to reclaim clarity, autonomy, and emotional wellness. Whether you're navigating coercive relationships, trauma, identity loss, or a major life transition, this is a space where your experiences are genuinely understood and validated. Many of the people I work with are seeking emotional safety, healthier relationships, and a stronger sense of self after experiencing emotionally harmful dynamics, including divorce, narcissistic abuse, domestic violence, cult experiences, or religious and spiritual trauma. These are experiences that can be difficult to put into words, and you deserve a therapist who not only understands them but can help you make sense of what you've been through. At the heart of my approach is a deep belief in our innate human need to be authentic and free. That belief shapes how I show up for you, as a supportive, grounding presence dedicated to helping you reclaim your life, your identity, and your autonomy. Collaboration, curiosity, and a deep respect for your autonomy shape the way I work with you. Every session is built on a foundation of trust and honesty, in a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and genuinely supportive of wherever you are in your journey. Using relational and trauma-informed approaches, we'll work together to help you better understand and reconnect with yourself, process painful experiences, and build healthier patterns in your relationships and daily life. I tailor everything to your unique needs and goals, rather than applying a one-size-fits-all framework. What matters most is that you feel genuinely seen, especially in experiences that others may not fully understand. Coercive control, emotional abuse, and relational trauma are areas I'm particularly drawn to and well-versed in. For many people, simply feeling validated in these experiences is a meaningful first step. My path to becoming a therapist was shaped by both personal and professional experiences that showed me, firsthand, how profoundly relationships and social influence shape our emotional well-being and sense of self. These experiences didn't just inform my clinical focus — they deepened my commitment to creating a therapeutic space where people feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. Warmth, insight, and an authentic relational presence are what I bring to every session. This work is not just a career; it's a calling rooted in a genuine desire to walk alongside you as you find your way back to yourself. Outside of sessions, you'll often find me reading, writing, or diving into investigative journalism. Hobbies that keep me both curious and grounded. Hiking offers a different kind of reset, one that connects me to the world in a way that carries over into how I show up for the people I work with.

Have you been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you're running on empty? Maybe you're anxious, down, or trying to heal from painful experiences that still echo into your present. Perhaps you’re struggling to find your rhythm in a fast-moving world, or questioning your direction altogether. Life can feel especially heavy when you’re carrying it alone. But here’s the thing—you don’t have to. It's okay to be unsure or even scared about starting this journey. What matters most is that you're here, looking for a new way forward. And we're here to walk alongside you. We provide culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and evidence-based therapy for adults navigating emotional and psychological challenges. We are a social justice oriented psychotherapy collective, committed to creating a safe, inclusive space for all clients to explore their lived experiences.
I specialize in promoting emotional and relational wellness by addressing concerns about depression, anxiety, and other issues resulting from trauma. I am a naturally intuitive and empathetic person, so part of who I am as a therapist is genuinely enjoying listening to people talk about their lives. My primary goal is to create a safe space for you to explore your feelings - snarkiness, self-deprecating humor, cursing, etc. is all welcome and accepted. Over time, I will help you make sense of your experiences and start to see and understand yourself from a more compassionate perspective. I'm also a neuroscience nerd, so another part of who I am as a therapist is helping you understand how your brain works and the how and why of what we’re doing in therapy. We'll talk about subpersonalities, neuroplasticity, memory networks, and more...but don't worry: I have an extensive library of articles, videos, and memes to help explain things. The most important part of who I am as a therapist is believing that therapy isn't just where you learn how to “deal with” mental health problems, but that for those who are ready, therapy can provide real healing. Using IFS-Informed EMDR, I help clients “reconsolidate” trauma memories, allowing you to experience transformational and lasting change.
Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you're juggling school, relationships, family expectations, or just trying to figure out who you are and what matters to you. I work best with students who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like they’re carrying more than they can manage alone. You might be navigating anxiety, burnout, grief, family conflict, or a major life transition—and I’m here to help you feel grounded again. My style is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I’ll never judge you for what you’re feeling. Instead, I’ll support you in understanding yourself better and building tools to manage what’s hard. Before opening my private practice, I worked for years in a medical setting supporting young people and families through complex challenges. Today, I specialize in working with individuals living with chronic illnesses, as well as the caregivers and siblings who support them—but many of my clients also come to me with everyday stress, identity questions, or big decisions about the future. If you’re looking for a therapist who will meet you where you are, help you make sense of your experiences, and walk alongside you as you grow, I’d love to connect.
I’m a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in life transitions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and multicultural identity issues. I offer a warm, collaborative, and culturally sensitive approach grounded in emotion-focused and evidence-based practices. My goal is to create a supportive space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences and identities. Together, we work to build insight, resilience, and meaningful change through a trusting and empowering therapeutic relationship.
You’re not broken...you’re overwhelmed. If you’re a college student, grad student, or campus professional who looks like they’re “doing fine” but feels anything but fine on the inside, you’re not alone. Many of the people I work with say things like: “My brain never shuts off.” “I overthink everything I say or do.” “I’m exhausted, but slowing down feels scary.” “I keep it together for everyone else, but I’m unraveling inside.” “I don’t know how to rest without guilt.” On the outside, you’re capable, responsible, and high-functioning. On the inside, it feels like you’re carrying a constant mental and emotional load, and you’re tired of holding it all alone. I work with students and campus professionals who are: •burnt out and emotionally overloaded •stuck in anxiety, overthinking, or shame spirals •sensitive to feedback, conflict, or perceived disappointment •struggling with ADHD-style busy brains or emotional regulation •quietly afraid they’re “too much” or “not enough” You don’t need another productivity system, mindset hack, or pressure to “get it together.” You need a space where: •you don’t have to perform •your nervous system can slow down •your thoughts don’t run the show •you can untangle what actually matters to you How we’ll work together My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) -a skills-based, evidence-supported approach that helps you: •get out of mental spirals without trying to force your thoughts away •respond more flexibly to stress, emotions, and uncertainty •build self-trust instead of self-criticism •create steadiness without losing your drive or ambition This isn’t about fixing you. It’s about learning how to be with yourself differently with more clarity, compassion, and choice. Support that fits campus life •Online therapy — flexible and accessible around classes, teaching, and work schedules •Walk & Talk sessions — for clients who think better with movement and nature •Small supportive groups — connection without pressure or emotional labor •Between-session tools — gentle prompts and supports so therapy doesn’t live only in the session If you’re wondering… •“Is therapy going to be too intense?” •“What if I don’t even know what I need?” •“What if I’m not ‘bad enough’ for therapy?” Those questions make sense — and you don’t need to answer them before reaching out. I offer complimentary consultations so you can get a feel for the process without pressure or obligation. You don’t have to know exactly what you want yet. We’ll start where you are — and move at a pace that actually works for you. 👉 Schedule a free consultation at www.thereddoortherapy.org ⸻ Emily MacNiven CO Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) LPC.0019496 Founder of The Red Door Therapy & Wellness Solutions Online therapy for adults across Colorado 🔗 www.thereddoortherapy.org
Balancing academics, relationships, work, family expectations, and planning for the future can feel like a lot. As a Clinical Social Work Candidate and Addictions Counselor Candidate, I specialize in mental health support and dual-diagnostic treatment for adults and adolescents. This support includes helping patients navigate co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, stress and anxiety, perfectionism, emotion-regulation difficulties, and challenges in relationships or daily functioning. My experience also extends to supporting previously incarcerated individuals as they navigate their reintegration process. No matter what you’re facing, we develop practical skills together for managing symptoms, creating meaningful life changes, and strengthening your relationships and self-understanding. I believe in meeting you wherever you are in each moment, whether you're processing challenges, celebrating strengths, building skills, or exploring new goals. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting your journey! My clinical approach is trauma-informed and holistic, recognizing the interconnectedness of your values, relationships, and life experiences. Using skills-based, strengths-based, and emotion-focused interventions, I support your healing and lasting change in a warm, goal-oriented space grounded in empathy and validation for your unique experience. While I draw on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I tailor interventions to align with your values, life context, and goals. My path to becoming a therapist grew from my own lived experience with mental health and a genuine passion for connection and growth. Volunteer work alongside my clinical experience has also deepened my understanding of our shared humanity, regardless of what we’ve been through or where we come from, and strengthened my commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed care. This combination of lived experience and clinical practice allows me to provide you with meaningful care. I love traveling, exploring cute coffee shops and restaurants, golfing, board game nights, and anything involving quality time with friends and family.
