I believe that clients are experts in themselves, and the counseling process serves as a vehicle for exploration, understanding, and change. Adversity and negative past experiences are part of all of our stories, but they do not define us. Counseling gives a space to reflect into the past providing an understanding of the influence these experiences have on our lives today. Using clients' insights, strengths and resilience I support and help our clients become the people they wish to be. My favorite part of supporting client's is supporting them in self-discovery and strengthening their sense of self. I strongly believe in providing high quality services to all individuals and affirming the dignity, worth and value of all. My approach as a therapist is a person-centered approach and strength based. I am also trained in CBT and integrate different interventions to meet client needs. I strive to create an open safe space for individuals to be their authentic-self and receive acceptance, kindness, and support. My goal for you is to give you the space you deserve to show the most authentic version of yourself feeling supported and empowered. The therapeutic alliance I believe is a collaborative one because you are the only expert of you. Client's work collaboratively with me to create the goals we will work towards. By the end of treatment, I want clients to have a strengthened sense of self as well as resilience, tools and techniques. I am a recent graduate from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine earning my Master's in Mental Health Counseling. I am the proud owner of Project Rise Counseling & Advocacy. I am a pre-licensed professional which means I am supervised by a licensed professional Alisa Trout. I am more than happy to answer any questions about how that works (: I strongly believe that all individuals should have access to mental health support thus I offer sliding scale services to overcome financial barriers. Whether you are looking for extra support throughout your academic journey, during a challenging situation, or you simply want to change directions in your life, I look forward to establishing a collaborative empowering relationship. I offer daytime, evening and weekend sessions!

Trying to find the right therapist in the middle of exams, papers, and trying to maintain a social life can feel overwhelming. I'm so glad you are here anyway! The most important things in finding a therapist is: 1) Finding someone you feel comfortable with- I work hard to make sessions as relaxed and comfortable as possible. I am approachable and welcoming. 2) Finding a therapist who will help you grow- In addition to providing you with a safe space to talk, I also teach you valuable skills for more effectively managing your emotions, relationships, life and communication skills. I also specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma, and find themselves stuck and unable to move forward with their life. Hope, healing, and growth are always possible. Feel free to email me. I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi! I’m Annie, and I’m a licensed social worker. I often work with individuals who have experienced trauma. I use a relational & feminist framework to help clients understand the role of relationships, culture, & society throughout their lives, and how those things affect working towards healing and joy. My past experience includes crisis management, survivor advocacy, trauma psychoeducation, supportive counseling with folks who experienced sexual violence during incarceration, mindfulness group work, and community outreach. If you experienced sexual violence in the state of PA, ask me about ways to help cover your costs. I’m a certified sexual assault counselor, and I’m partially trained in EMDR, working towards certification. I have worked extensively with survivors of sexual abuse and complex trauma. I am proficient in working with the LGBTQIA+ community, the neurodiverse community, those who have experienced incarceration, and I work from an anti-diet culture perspective. I’m a person in the world who happens to be a therapist. To me, the most important part of therapy is the genuine human connection we form. I bring humor and authenticity to my practice. Outside of work, I can almost always be found with my nose in a book or finding myself a sweet treat. Let’s get to know each other and see if we are the right match!

I work with individuals seeking a compassionate space for introspection and healing. You may feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges or past experiences, but you also bring unique strengths and perspectives. My approach honors your individuality, helping you uncover insights and foster meaningful growth along your journey. I offer support for life’s challenges with specialties in trauma, obsessive compulsive expressions (or OCD), and navigating complex emotions. Through EMDR, ERP, and Internal Family Systems, we’ll work collaboratively to foster growth, develop skills, and help you reconnect with your authentic self in a compassionate, empowering space. You deserve a space where your experiences are honored, and your voice is heard. Healing can feel daunting, but you don’t have to face it alone. Together, we can explore your story, build on your strengths, and create the changes you’re ready for. Let’s take that first step together.

You might feel torn between what you want and what everyone else expects from you. You try to make the right choices, keep the peace, and be there for everyone, yet you are left feeling anxious, guilty, and unsure of your own needs. I work with women who feel stuck in relationships, career decisions, and life transitions, and who want to understand themselves more clearly and set healthier boundaries. My work is grounded in CBT, Mindfulness, EMDR, strengths-based therapy, and Trauma Informed care. I pay close attention to the mind-body connection because it often reveals what words cannot. Our goal is to help you feel more like yourself, more confident in your decisions, and more connected to what you truly want. I show up with honesty, compassion, and a little humor. I will support you, challenge you, and call out the patterns that keep showing up so you can stay focused on what matters to you. *Update 3.26.20: “Social distancing” need not interrupt or delay therapy. Many therapists (including myself) are providing telepsych (remote/distance) sessions via phone or video-call during this uncertain and surreal time. Many of us (including myself) have also lowered our student rates. You don’t need to hire me, but if you’re struggling, please connect with *somebody*. Now back to my regularly scheduled profile;) Hi! So, you’re checking out therapist profiles and considering therapy. Good move. Sometimes, talking with friends and family just isn’t enough. Maybe your mood, anxiety, relationships, use, or self- harm has gotten worse? I’m sorry you’re struggling - though you came to the right place. Really. Therapy can help you feel less overwhelmed and less stuck; break self-destructive relationship patterns and behaviors; take better care of yourself; get substance use under better control; and .... really, anything *you* want to address. For more than 20 years, I’ve worked with adolescents and young adults struggling with school, relationships, ADHD, grief, anxiety, depression, self-injury, substance use, and most anything else you can imagine. I am passionate about my work - most especially my work with your age group. My niece dubbed me a “teenaged grownup”. I didn’t argue:) Here are some “reviews” by real clients: *easy to talk to and approachable *Understands the student experience and WCU culture * she gets what it’s like to be my age in the 2000s * She’s pretty funny sometimes * she treats me like a real person *very accepting and non-judgmental; I can talk with her about super sensitive stuff. *She cares. I trust her. You can learn more about me and my practice on my website. If we decide to work together, know this: I am honest, sincere, and direct. I will never impose my agenda or beliefs on you. I want to help you become the best version of yourself. You needn’t see *me* But, if you’re struggling, please try at least a few sessions with *somebody* The best therapy takes place in a relationship in which you feel heard, respected, and safe. Please don’t settle for anything less. Best, Amy

Anxiety is complicated - its like the house guest that shows up unannounced and doesn't know when to leave. Anxiety can sabotage picture perfect moments and sometimes prevent opportunities from even getting off the ground. Other times, it allows us to recognize when we're in danger and helps us spring into action. How do you know when anxiety is serving you well or setting you up? My clients often seek therapy to manage anxiety because they no longer want anxiety taking them by surprise. They want to manage their anxiety in a healthy way, so that they can enjoy their lives. Together, we work towards creating a game plan that works best for you to achieve anxiety relief. Anxiety can go unnoticed for a long-time, especially in a college setting where high-performance is expected. We will talk about how high-functioning anxiety shows up in your life. Procrastination and avoidance paired with perfectionism is a winning combination for someone to misallocate their energy and efforts and burnout in the process. If this rings true to you, I would be honored to chat with you about I can help you live your life with a little more ease.
