As a therapist, I take a collaborative and supportive approach with my clients. I work with students facing anxiety and depression—whether tied to academic pressures or other factors—as well as those managing chronic illnesses or disabilities. I also support students who are navigating relationship challenges with friends, family, or romantic partners, and those going through significant life transitions. College is a time of profound change, often sparking a desire to explore who we are—our past, our present, and the person we hope to become.
Therapy can deepen your capacity for love, trust, and connection — with yourself and with others. I’ve seen it ease depression, anxiety, and shame; strengthen self-esteem; and help people become more resilient during life’s ups and downs. Most of all, it can bring forward a truer, more authentic self. Therapy is a collaborative process. You speak, and I listen closely — for what’s said and what lies beneath the surface — helping you see what may be getting in the way of a more fulfilling life. As Carl Rogers wrote: “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” I’ve found that to be true. Patients find it helpful to explore childhood, memories that bubble up, dreams, feelings, fears, wishes — whatever arises. Our aim is an understanding of your inner world that leads to meaningful action & choice. With couples, I help you listen more clearly & break entrenched patterns. Everyone longs to be seen and heard & I'll help you arrive at that place. As a therapist and writer, I’m inspired to help each patient take hold of their narrative — understanding where they’ve come from & where they’d like to go. As we get to know one another, I tailor my style to your personality and needs. Your feedback is always encouraged. Email me to schedule a consultation & see if we’re a good fit. I expect my clients to take away from sessions with me is an enhanced knowledge of their strengths and meaningful ways to address their challenges. We will work together always respecting their autonomy and uniqueness as a person. But inside, you may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or constantly second-guessing yourself. Maybe anxiety, overthinking, or self-criticism make it hard to trust your decisions. Many of my clients feel pressure to figure out their careers, relationships, and identity all at once. You may feel lost, burned out, or unsure of your next step, but you’re ready to understand yourself better and start building a life that actually feels right for you. I offer a warm but direct approach that blends CBT and DBT tools to help you manage anxiety, build confidence, and break unhelpful patterns. Therapy with me isn’t just about talking — it’s about learning practical skills to regulate emotions, challenge self-criticism, set boundaries, and move forward with clarity. The Rust Wellness approach to therapy is tailoring each session to fit the needs of the client and consistently reevaluating to meet their evolving issues and concerns. I invite you to plant the next seed in your healing journey, a space where your whole self is welcome, not only the parts that learned to survive. I’m Lalo Nahui (lah-loh nah-wee) and I use they/he pronouns. I am a queer, transmasc, neurodivergent, disabled, polyamorous, first-generation Mexican therapist. My lived experience shapes how I listen, how I notice, and how I sit with you in this work we grow together. I work with college students who are tired of surviving on autopilot, balancing academics, relationships, jobs, and the expectation to always have it figured out. You might be navigating identity exploration, grief, anxiety, burnout, executive functioning or procrastination, career decisions, or the impact of carrying burdens that were never yours to carry. Maybe therapy has felt like talking without it landing in your body; together we create practices that feel embodied, creative, and practical. We slow down. We listen to your nervous system with patience, curiosity, and care. We make space for parts of you that learned to protect, perform, disappear, or endure, and we tend to them like weathered land learning to soften again. I weave somatic and nervous-system attuned practices, parts work, narrative and expressive approaches, and spiritual tools like tarot or astrology when desired. I also offer neurodivergent-informed coaching for routines, time management, and goal-setting. I center queer and trans students, QTBIPOC and students of the global majority, neurodivergent and disabled students, and first-generation and immigrant students. This work is collaborative, consent-based, and rooted in care, curiosity, and accountability. Healing moves at the pace of your body; it unfolds in cycles and seasons. Together we clarify next steps, release narratives that echo in your body, and practice returning to your full self in ways that feel real, embodied, and empowering. Virtual telehealth available in New York (Under Supervision of Andrew Triska, LCSW).
