I work with college students by offering a safe and supportive space to talk through the ups and downs of this stage of life. Sometimes we use creative tools to help express feelings, and other times we just focus on conversation. My approach is always collaborative, and I’ll meet you where you’re at—whether that means exploring new ways to cope with stress, building healthier relationships, or simply having a space to sort through what’s on your mind.

As a former student-athlete, I understand how tough it can be to balance everything, whether it is school, sports or just life in general. That’s why I’m passionate about supporting young adults and the LGBTQ+ community who are dealing with anxiety, depression, or going through major life transitions. Being an athlete showed me how important it is to have a good support system, and I want to be that supportive presence for my clients as they work through their own challenges. I aim to create a nonjudgmental space where you feel seen, heard, and understood. I use a blend of evidence-based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients better understand and manage their thoughts and emotions. Using expressive and mindfulness-based practices, we will tap into your creativity, self-expression, and find your own inner calm. My mission as a therapist is to meet each person with empathy and compassion, making sure to support their unique story while helping them discover their inner strength and potential. I’m here to help you navigate what’s hard, celebrate what’s working, and discover what’s possible. I want therapy to feel like a safe, welcoming space where you can be yourself and figure things out at your own pace. Therapy with me is a team effort and you're never alone in the process.

My main approaches are derived from person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused, and schema therapy. I hope for all my clients to leave sessions gaining more understanding of who they are, questions and tools to help them go deeper and confidence to work towards change. In sessions I provide a warm and safe space for you to freely express yourself. Together we will work collaboratively to address the anxiety, depression and other symptoms hindering you in life. Working together to understand the root of these issues and challenge the thinking patterns and behaviors that repeats themselves, keeping you in a negative loop. The tools that I will provide will help you gain more insight and understanding of yourself and work towards meaningful change and growth. I also specialize in mental health with Christian spirituality. I can also teach you how to implement biblical principles into improving your mental health.

Let’s be honest, going to therapy can be a little intimidating. I know what you are thinking, “what would speaking to a shrink do for me? I have so much on my mind, it will take more than a few sessions to unleash everything.” Well…I got time AND passion. I believe that as human beings living in our present society, we are conditioned to put our needs aside and we frequently forget how to take care of ourselves. As your therapist, I am strongly devoted to assisting you in tackling life challenges, managing problems, and coming out stronger than ever because YOU are capable. My approach to therapy is to use a strength based perspective, CBT and create an unapologetic space for my client. I want my client to feel they don't need to sugar coat anything in sessions because I truly believe transparency will open up my client's full potential to self-discovery and personal growth. I know taking this next step is scary AND brave. Imagine yourself opening up to possibilities you only dreamt of and finally being in control over your life and happiness. Let's work together to build that dream by tackling those negative thought distortions and create new perspectives in order to create your new reality.

My empathic approach empowers clients to lead healthier lives. As we work together, I will focus on you and your unique needs. We will collaborate to set goals that will help you move forward in your life. Starting with your existing strengths, we will then develop the tools needed to meet those goals. My therapeutic work is informed by my years of supporting people struggling with substance use, domestic violence, and anger management. I also enjoy working with immigrants and first-generation Americans as they navigate being part of two unique and sometimes conflicting cultures. Utilizing culturally informed CBT, along with DBT tools, I am passionate about helping individuals develop more meaningful relationships.

At our mental health practice, we specialize in helping students who feel like outsiders navigate the challenges of addiction, trauma, immigration, and acculturation. If you've ever felt like you don't belong or struggle to connect, you're not alone. Many of our clients share this experience of alienation—whether as immigrants adjusting to a new culture, individuals recovering from traumatic life experiences, or students whose identity is rooted in a marginalized community. We understand the deep desire to find community and to heal from life's toughest moments. Our supportive, non-judgmental environment is here to help you reclaim your sense of self and build meaningful connections. Together, we’ll explore ways to recover, grow, and find belonging. You don’t have to face these challenges alone—healing starts here.

Looking for a therapist is a massive act of self care and I am glad you're here! I have been practicing as a therapist since 2019, and my goal is to help people live their lives in the way that suits them best. Everyone can benefit from therapy and there is no one reason to go to counseling. Every goal is valid. Life can be challenging, especially with all of the demands of college. I see therapy as a cathartic and positive outlet to allow a person to seek meaning, find support and feel validated. My clinical focus is on relationships, anxiety, adjustment and burnout. My therapy approach is conversational and collaborative, and always with the baseline that you are the expert in your life. I look forward to connecting with you!

When you make the decision to attend therapy, you are making the decision to prioritize your wellbeing in a fundamentally unique way. Therapy is something that can be challenging, but also transformative– Especially for those who have not been listened to, believed, or had the freedom to pause and practice introspection due to the demands of life. Knowing the challenges of finding a therapist who can understand your life experiences, I prioritize working with communities with whom I share personal experience. This includes, but is not limited to: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, sex worker, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled communities. My work is grounded in Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as an essential part of the therapeutic process. I aim to minimize power dynamics in the room between therapist and client, and firmly believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than an authority in the room, I see my role as a collaborator in helping you achieve your therapy goals. For those who wish to know my social location: I am a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, polyamorous, non-binary therapist in my 30s. I come from a middle-class background in a mixed race household, am a US citizen, and was raised Catholic but am not religious. I approach therapy as a team effort grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, fat liberatory, sex & kink positive, and feminist ideals. My therapy practice is eclectic, borrowing from multiple modalities in order to find the best approach for each individual client, couple, or polycule. Common approaches I incorporate include: EFT (emotion focused therapy), IFS (internal family systems), Sex Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I work with clients on a variety of topics, but special interests include: Unpacking attachment wounds using IFS; Transition stages in Poly/ENM; Freedom from shame regarding sex & kink; Impacts of disability; Relationships to health, disordered eating, and/or fatness from a fat liberatory and body neutrality lens. If you are curious about working together, please email lowell@expressyourselftherapynyc.com to set up a free consultation.

As a therapist, I strive to create a warm, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive space where clients feel seen, heard, and accepted. My identity and experiences have deepened my understanding of the ways culture, family dynamics, systemic barriers, and lived experiences can shape mental health. This perspective allows me to approach therapy with curiosity, humility, and respect for each client's unique story. I work primarily with young adults and adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, self-worth challenges, life transitions, and stress. I am especially passionate about supporting first-generation individuals, Black and Caribbean communities, Asian Americans, and LGBTQIA+ clients, while welcoming people from all backgrounds. Many of the clients I work with appear high-functioning on the outside but feel overwhelmed, burnt out, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. When working with me, you can expect a collaborative, affirming, and nonjudgmental environment. I believe therapy should move at a pace that feels comfortable and sustainable for you. Together, we will explore patterns, process difficult emotions, build coping skills, and develop greater self-understanding. My goal is to help clients feel more grounded, connected to themselves, and empowered to make choices that align with their values and goals.
