Our therapists are specially trained to address the roots of trauma and provide the tools to approach everyday life with a positive attitude and a peaceful mindset. Everyone’s healing journey is different, and we pride ourselves on an approach that includes cultural sensitivity to individual situations. Therapy can be hard, we understand. This is why our goal is to make it fun, relatable, and something you want to keep doing. Using a relaxed conversational approach, we help our clients get to the root of their struggles and find true healing.

Hi! My name is Alicia, and I want to meet you. Yes, you! College can be intense. You're away from home with the pressure to succeed and do well, but there's also dealing with roommates, parties, and being around people who resemble aliens. You know, they just don't get you and you've never encountered anyone quite like them before. On top of this, you may be the first in your family to go to college. You can't admit to them that it's hard. They had all their hopes and dreams riding on you. So where to go? Come to therapy! Yes, therapy. It may be your first time talking to someone, but I promise it helps to tell someone what you're thinking and what you're feeling. College doesn't have to be scary, and you don't have to go through it alone. We can figure it out together. I am a licensed clinical social worker who has worked with many college students, especially those who identify as first-gen and/or veterans. Therapy with me is conversational. In sessions, you can speak freely. I'm not into judging. That would probably make me a lousy therapist. I offer thoughtful reflection and point out patterns in your behavior that may not be the most helpful, and then we problem-solve and strategize solutions to help get you feeling better. I can also teach you skills to help when your emotions feel overwhelming.

Are you waking up already tired, dreading another video meeting, wondering how work that once excited you became so draining? Friends think you’re doing great, yet inside you feel pressure to keep advancing and wonder what it’s all for. Relationships can feel just as complicated, especially when desire clashes with your values or what you “should” want. You may feel lonely even around people. You’re good at thinking logically, but thinking harder hasn’t helped; it keeps you stuck. You want relief, clarity, and a steadier sense of self in work and relationships. I help you step out of overthinking, self-criticism, overwhelm, and repeating relationship loops. We’ll pause when you’d normally push harder, notice thoughts, emotions, and body cues, and make room for a different response. We’ll connect patterns to past experiences, clarify your values, and hold values and feelings without shame so choices feel aligned. If you’ve tried self-help or even AI to “figure it out” and still feel stuck, you’re not alone. Therapy is different: a real relationship where you don’t have to carry the hidden parts by yourself, and support can go deeper than insight alone. We’ll go at a pace that feels safe and honest. If this resonates, reach out to schedule a first session.

Sometimes along our journeys we learn ways of thinking and feeling that aren’t most helpful to us later on. I offer an opportunity to consider unlearning what isn’t serving us and to find new ways of thinking. Other times, we’d all just benefit from an extra layer of support; time set aside that’s all ours. Most of all, the work we do will allow you to feel some relief, comfort, connection, the opportunity to experience positive feelings, and sit with the hard ones. I offer therapy to adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, obsessive thoughts, trauma, grief, career challenges, and motherhood. I specialize in treating disordered eating and body image concerns. I work extensively with runners. I practice a holistic approach and am skilled in meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and coping techniques. I understand that the best therapy happens when you and your therapist are a great fit. I offer a compassionate, thoughtful, and effective approach. I believe in the healing power of animals and my bulldog, Olive, joins us for sessions.

My intention as a psychotherapist is to create a safe and supportive environment in which people can learn and share more about themselves, and in so doing, ease their suffering and create possibilities of positive movement and change in their lives. I am grounded in a relational and psychodynamic approach. This means that I am attuned to building a respectful interactive relationship, and that I bring an awareness of the deep impact of the past on people's present lives. My practice is diverse, with a specialization in trauma focused psychotherapy. Other areas of expertise are the treatment of depression, grief and loss, anxiety, relational issues, emotional regulation, and difficulties with family of origin.

She draws her approach from many sources including Depth Psychology, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Internal Family Systems. Welcome to Behr Psychology! We are a collective of caring, insightful, and authentic psychologists and therapists in NYC. We know how scary it can be to seek therapy for the first time. Finding a good therapist that you click with can be difficult. We applaud you for taking the first step and are committed to making your therapy experience a positive and reparative one. We provide a safe space to work through the mental health challenges you are facing. Whether you are seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, or couples therapy, we can help match you with the right therapist for your needs. ~ Most people seek therapy when they are unhappy with one or more aspects of their lives. Whether you are struggling with work, love, family or self – you might be wondering, what will really help? I believe that understanding yourself is a great gift and a power. We as people are complicated beings. It takes effort and focused attention to parse out our complexity. It takes will and bravery to face ourselves; our lives, our pasts, presents and futures. It also takes intention to appreciate our strengths and recognize the areas that need strengthening. In my practice, I will help you to discover what aspects of your current life and functioning are working well and what aspects no longer serve you. Together we will explore what you want, why you want, the obstacles in your way and how to overcome them. We start where you are and work on your goals, paying special attention to your evolution over the course of treatment. My goals, as your therapist are to gently facilitate your growth and to create a warm, sincere and safe environment that fosters trust, honesty, openness and authenticity. ~ Our clinicians do not sit back and stare at you blankly. We do not judge you. We are committed to creating a comfortable environment that fosters vulnerability and openness. We will actively help you to process your emotions and experiences and provide you with coping skills along the way. We do not provide that blank-stare judgmental type of therapy because we do not want that type of therapy. We are not cold, stuffy, or old-fashioned. Our highly skilled NYC-based therapists and psychologists work collaboratively and actively with you to achieve your goals and find relief from suffering.
