Therapists for college students near New York University
At McGarril Mental Health Counseling, we believe that therapy works best when it's honest, well-informed, and deeply human. We founded this practice because we saw too many people struggling to find therapists who were both clinically excellent and genuinely present. Too often, mental health care feels either coldly clinical or lacks the evidence-based foundation that creates lasting change. We work with clients 18 and over, dealing with depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship issues, grief, eating disorders, and much more. We use EMDR, DBT, IFS, ACT, and CBT approaches. We're committed to offering something different: relational and trauma-informed therapy that combines rigorous training with authentic connection. We show up fully—bringing our expertise, our continued learning, and our humanity to every session.
Life is full of constant change that we are learning how to navigate every day. Often, adjusting to these changes can bring up a range of emotions including anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. I wholeheartedly believe that everyone has the potential and ability to adapt to these ever-changing challenges in constructive ways that allow them to expand their lives. Our therapeutic relationship would be a source of kindness, calmness, and empowerment in your life. My hope is that therapy can be a safe space for you to share and clarify your values and motivations. By exploring your current habits and patterns, we can bring awareness to what is working well for you and transform the less effective methods into constructive actions that help bring you closer to feeling your best. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel a little intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have or to schedule a free consultation before starting therapy together. I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling and am training as an Advanced Clinical Trainee at Mindful Mental Health Counseling & Wellness, located in midtown Manhattan. I’m available to work together both in-person and remotely. Supervising Therapist: Tricia Schwartz, LMHC, Mindful Mental Health Counseling.
TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. As a counselor, my priority is to create a collaborative, safe, and judgment-free space where you feel fully supported. My goal is to help you become the person you want to be and to work with you toward achieving the goals that matter most to you. I believe the most effective therapy integrates both past and present—exploring how past experiences shape current challenges, while actively practicing new strategies in and outside of sessions to create change. Throughout my career, I’ve helped clients facing a wide range of challenges. My main areas of focus include substance abuse and addiction, trauma/PTSD, ADHD, career and life transitions, and men's mental health. What this means is I provide support around addiction, trauma, and men’s mental health—and the many issues connected to them. With 5+ years of experience as a therapist and life coach, I’ve successfully helped clients from age 14-50 navigate ADHD, executive functioning, career issues, personality disorders, relationship issues, grief and loss, and much more. I am also partnered with a Ketamine-care practice, and along with their prescribers I offer Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. To make an appointment for either a 15-min free consultation call or an hour long initial session, please use the link below. I am available Monday through Thursday both in-person and virtually. mindfulmentalhealth.clientsecure.me/ Insurance companies unethically force therapists to give a diagnosis after one session with a client, & they also do not maintain high enough standards of confidentiality and data safety. I do not accept insurance to avoid these issues, but I will help you get reimbursed using your Out Of Network benefits. Clients are normally reimbursed for up to 80% of the therapy cost!

At the heart of my work is the belief that growth begins when we turn inward; not only to solve problems, but to truly listen. Beneath stress, self-doubt, and burnout is often a quieter call for balance, meaning, and wholeness. In our sessions, I’ll invite you to slow down, tune in, and reconnect with parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by deadlines, expectations, or the pressure to achieve. My approach blends psychodynamic and somatic (body-centered) therapy to explore both your inner world (unconscious patterns, images, and beliefs) and the lived experience of your body, where insight and change can take root. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with students navigating anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, creative blocks, identity questions, and challenges with eating and body image, relationships, self-worth, or belonging. I’m particularly drawn to working with artists and creatives. What matters most to me is creating a space that is open, safe, and judgment-free; a space where you can explore who you are, discover your own meaning, and move toward a life that feels both authentic and sustainable. You can learn more about me here: christinemalossi.com.
My guide in counseling is to create a safe and welcoming environment that promotes autonomy, open and honest communication and support to be who you are, where you are while working on where you want to be. For many, the notion of therapy implies that “something is wrong” when it is quite the opposite. The clarity it takes to acknowledge, accept and receive therapy or ‘mind maintenance’ as I like to call it, means you are self-aware, and there is nothing wrong with that. I specialize in a bad day with academic stress, social anxiety and depression but I can also work with a good day!

Trauma and the destabilizing events of our lives can impact our ability to grow no matter when or how they happen. We can find ourselves in harmful or unmanageable cycles that persist. By creating a safe space to creatively experiment in therapy you can provide yourself with the means and intention to grow. As a Clinician I have worked with clients experiencing addiction, the impact of trauma, and family dysfunction. Perhaps these challenges have led to unhealthy behaviors that don't fit who you are and what you need anymore. Or that you have reached many of your goals but realize the cost has been an internal battle that persists. I am passionate about partnering with my clients to create that safe space and have been inspired by witnessing what happens when it is created. Using a trauma informed lens I offer concrete tools for growth for those experiencing acute symptoms and mindfully move folks into deeper and more intimate somatic and creative interventions when ready.

My name is Savi and I’m a licensed clinical social worker in private practice. I have a particular interest in working with students as much of my clinical experience is in working with people in their teens and early 20’s who are going through the big life changes that happen at these times. There is so much to navigate during this time in life with academic demands, becoming more independent from our families, and starting new relationships. There are many reasons we are drawn to start therapy, but I find it is often because we are struggling with difficult feelings related to these things that we may not understand and don’t know how to get rid of. I think it’s important that you have a safe place to talk about these feelings and for us to begin to understand what is underneath them.

I’m a psychologist who practices primarily from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic approaches. Psychotherapy is a method of personal change and self-discovery through conversation. It’s unlike most conversations that we get to have in our day-to-day lives because no topic is off limits. The areas we delve into will include your stressors, relationships, sexuality, dreams, fantasies, anger, anxieties, and the unconscious motivations for your decisions.
