Therapists for college students near New York University
I want to begin by applauding your initiative in seeking counseling services. Acknowledging the need for help and reaching out is a commendable and courageous step. It demonstrates self-awareness and a willingness to prioritize your well-being. I want to help individuals manage ADHD, Relationship and Interpersonal issues, Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Life Transitions, Stress, Burnout, and more.
I’m a Clinical Psychologist (board certified in Group Psychology), and I work with college and graduate students who want to understand themselves better and feel more at ease in their lives and relationships. In therapy, I offer a space to slow down, reflect, and make sense of what’s happening—whether it’s stress, anxiety, relationships, identity, motivation, or big transitions. My approach is psychoanalytic and relational, which means we pay attention not just to symptoms, but to the deeper patterns and experiences that shape how you think and feel.
It's hard to change - but with support it becomes possible. You might be struggling with difficult thoughts like "what if my family never accepts my life choices - will they ever accept me?" Perhaps you're battling indecisiveness and fear about whether you're "good enough" to succeed, preventing you from reaching your aspirations and goals? Or maybe you feel confident and successful at times, but at other moments as if your shield for taking on the world is paper-thin? I specialize in the management of anxiety, fear, and depression - especially during times of actual or desired transition - that show up as feeling stuck or uncertain in your personal and professional life. My practice provides a safe and supportive environment to explore your challenges, resolve your concerns and help you get back to living your life again. I am able to accept both Aetna and Independent Health insurance plans.

Simply by researching therapists, you have taken the first courageous step to making changes that will move you towards the life you want. As an experienced and compassionate psychologist, I am committed to helping individuals on their journey towards self-discovery and personal growth. My therapeutic approach is collaborative, empathic, and tailored to each individual's needs. I draw from a range of evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), relational, interpersonal, and insight-oriented therapies.
Good fit is important when choosing a counselor. Here are some things to know about me: I want to understand where you've been and your current life goals. I won’t judge your life choices and am here to support you on your journey. I genuinely care about my clients and I'm a therapist because helping others is fulfilling and meaningful to me. I am a very approachable, available and responsive counselor, both during and outside of sessions.
I’m Dr. Clara Kuntz, a licensed psychologist in New York and owner of Introspective Journey Psychological Services. I provide specialized online therapy for college students across New York. I support students navigating ADHD, autism, giftedness, anxiety, perfectionism, binge eating, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), burnout, and/ or grief, including pet loss. My approach is thoughtful, personalized, and grounded in evidence-based care—designed to support neurodivergent and deeply reflective students as they manage academic stress, build balance, gain clarity, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Parenting is one of the most meaningful things a person can do, and one of the most overwhelming. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC), I work with children, adolescents, and adults navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, behavioral concerns, and mood disorders. As a mother of five, I know firsthand that raising children can be both deeply rewarding and incredibly hard. That lived experience shapes how I show up for the families I work with. You won't be handed a clinical framework; you'll be met with genuine empathy from someone who understands what it feels like to navigate difficult moments. I care deeply about the best interest of each child while also recognizing the important role parents play, which is why we work together on improving emotional well-being, building confidence, and empowering young people to thrive. I believe in the resilience of children and in the power of the parent-child relationship, and am here to help you strengthen both. I look forward to walking alongside you with empathy, respect, and understanding as your steady and supportive partner through even the most difficult moments. Every child deserves to feel understood, valued, and supported. That belief is at the heart of everything I do, and it's what drives me to show up fully for every patient and family I work with. Lasting change, in my experience, happens when families are treated as partners in care, which is why my approach is collaborative and family-centered by design. I use evidence-based medication management alongside supportive therapeutic techniques to help children and adolescents improve emotional regulation, reduce symptoms, and build resilience and confidence over time. Each patient is different, and I tailor my approach to fit the individual's needs, circumstances, and goals. Whether we're addressing anxiety, ADHD, mood instability, or behavioral concerns, the environment you'll find here is safe, nonjudgmental, and built on trust. My path to psychiatric mental health grew out of years of caring for patients and families as a registered nurse specializing in oncology medicine. In this work, I witnessed how deeply mental health impacts not only the individual but the entire family system. Becoming a mother of five made my calling even more personal. Watching my own children develop — navigating communication, resilience, and big emotions — gave me a new lens for understanding what families truly need. It reinforced my commitment to care that is grounded, evidence-based, and compassionate, with a strong focus on understanding the child’s needs and the parent’s experience. That combination of clinical foundation and lived family experience is what I bring into every session. You'll find someone who has both studied this work and lived it. Outside of my clinical work, I value spending time with my family and enjoying life outdoors. I love traveling with my family in our RV, camping, hiking, walking, and if I can ever find the time, riding horses. These experiences keep me grounded and reflect my belief in balance, connection, and the importance of mental wellness and everyday life.
Due to licensing rules, I can only work with clients in New York State! Hi, my name is Alia and I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor after my own experience being diagnosed with bipolar one disorder during my undergrad college years. I try to take what I have liked working counselors over the years (being listened to, validated & empathized with), what has not worked for me (those who gave preachy, simplistic advice...) and incorporate the helpful counseling styles into my practice. My area of specialty emerged while I was in graduate school. I had the honor of working with Survivors of Domestic Violence. I also have spent several years working as an Outpatient Behavioral Health Therapist at a hospital assisting clients heal from depression, anxiety, mood disorders and trauma. COVID-19 hasn't been easy on our generation, and especially not for students. I am noticing an increase in social anxiety and overall questioning of the meaning of life. I remain committed to the mental health field, however, and hope you reach out to see if I'm a good match for you! NEW: I have recently started a therapy blog! Hi! Congratulations on taking the next step towards your healing. I’m Lucielle, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who creates a space where you can feel safe, heard, and supported. I believe healing starts when you no longer have to carry everything on your own. My style is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I’ve worked with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I meet each client where they are—with empathy and respect. I look forward to meeting you! You can book an intake with me on my headway link provided or feel free to call/email for further assistance.
My approach is influenced by C.G. Jung, Viktor Frankl (Man's Search for Meaning) Socratic dialogue, Buddhism and Quaker meetings. I work best with the person who sees their life as a journey of self-discovery. I will help you uncover the solutions that you already have and see the problematics of those solutions. I will help you listen to your muse, interpret your dreams, identify your interpersonal patterns and face the fears and anxieties that haunt you. I will treat your troubles with the utmost respect because they help you learn and grow. Gratitude softens pain. I find parallels between creativity & spiritual inspiration.
As you grow, you strive for more out of life, yet may be unsure how to get to where you may wish to be. I will support you on your journey as we explore together your needs, long-term and short-term perceived goals, and best practices for fulfilling them. I use the therapeutic process to empower my clients so that you come to realize and acknowledge the wealth of resources you have both within and without, building on strengths and gaining confidence to accept the past and create your personal story. I provide individual and group therapy to children, teens, adults, and seniors, with extensive experience working with issues related to anxiety, trauma, depression, life transitions, midlife, parenting, school, caregiver stress, creatively aging, and the second half of life. According to Carl Jung, individuation is the process of self-realization through discovering meaning and purpose in one's life. I provide a safe space for exploration and honoring all aspects of the self-the good, the challenging, that which may be difficult to look at, and everything in between. I use methods such as verbal and non-verbal techniques, art therapy, dreamwork, and imagery as entryways to viewing the unconscious and symbolic content and how these present themselves in conscious life. I am open to the needs of each individual client and invite you to lead me as your guide on your path of growth and evolvement. I hold a Master's degree in Art Therapy and Counseling from Long Island University and certificates in Jungian oriented psychotherapy from the CG Jung Institute of San Francisco, which informs my integrative approach to therapy and supports my commitment to creative and holistic healing.

Loss is a quiet grief that doesn't conform to the world's pace, especially when we need stillness as well as acknowledgment. Whether your loss involves a companion animal, a relationship, a career path, or a life that looks OK to others but feels hollow to you, your circumstances deserve to be honored and processed with care. For many years, I have been drawn to working with people who carry more than they can say out loud. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a Licensed Veterinary Technician, where I sat with families as they navigated some of their toughest moments. Those experiences, as well as my own, inspired me to become a therapist and have informed and shaped how I understand deep pain. I employ a variety of professional modalities, along with humor and a touch of sharp wit, when working with clients, centering them as they move forward with their lives. Grief is not a problem to solve, regardless of the type of loss you're experiencing, what others say, or what hustle culture expects from you.
