Hi! My name is Tristan. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Washington and New York. I am a sex and body-positive, LGBTQI+ affirming, kink-friendly therapist who works with adults, 18 and over, around varying topics such as gender, sexuality, HIV/AIDS & STIs, safer sex, self-esteem, self-acceptance, family, Asian (Filipino) identity, polyamorous/alternative relationship structures, harm-reduction, depression, and anxiety. I am an affirming and inquisitive therapist, and I believe through self-reflection and self-examination we can reach a more joyous, peaceful, and healthier life. I also prefer a person-centered approach, so we go at your speed, and what makes you comfortable. Sometimes I will push you a little more, but within limits. People who see me usually feel that I am very interested in understanding their experience, gaining insight, and supporting them in figuring out their next steps. Taking care of your mental health can be hard, and my role is to assist you the best way I can.
I'm Dr. Akeisha Rivera and I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I specialize in helping couples overcome infidelity, affairs, constant fighting, a lack of intimacy, and emotional disconnection. I do this by helping you communicate in a safe, nonjudgmental space and by providing you with tools to help you thrive within your relationship. My goal is to help you become the best possible version of yourself so that you and your partner can rebuild your bond and make it stronger than ever before. As your therapist, I will be there with you every step of the way. You can trust me to be fully engaged in your process and growth. Through years of experience, I know that no problem is too great to overcome. I do this work because of my genuine desire to help couples connect so that life's challenges only bring them closer. Let's talk about how I can help your relationship thrive.
I am a clinical psychologist who provides evidence-based, solution-focused treatment in a warm, supportive environment. In my experience most people appreciate a compassionate yet direct approach from their therapist. I work with you to identify and change unhealthy thoughts and behaviors while providing ongoing clear feedback and guidance in a supportive and nonjudgmental manner. As a cognitive-behavioral psychologist, I use research-based treatment techniques while tailoring therapy to your unique needs and circumstances. People tell me they feel comfortable and at ease with me and quickly learn that I work hard to help them reach their goals. I look forward to working with you to create a more content, rewarding, and satisfying life for yourself.
My top priority is to provide you with a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where we can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. We will work together towards developing insight, fostering self-compassion, and finding strategies to help you live a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. We will set goals together, tailoring our approach to suit your individual needs and preferences. I have had the honor to work in the field of mental health for the past 15 years and journey alongside amazing people who were able to discover the strength, grace, and wisdom waiting for them. While I have experience providing several treatment modalities, I specialize in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Narrative Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have also been extensively trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Additionally, for the past eight years, I have taught courses on human behavior and additional topics at SUNY Brockport and Nazareth College allowing me to stay current on mental health research and treatments. My experience has shown me that everyone has the capacity for growth, we sometimes just need a space to discover and map out the life that we want. I would be honored to provide that space and help you bring more authenticity into your life.
I offer LGBTQIA+ affirming care for adults and young adults in New York and across over 40 states through PsyPact, with virtual therapy tailored to each client's unique needs. My practice is especially supportive of undergraduate/graduate students, healthcare professionals, and those managing anxiety/mood concerns, identity development, or academic/professional stress. I have also received advanced training in postpartum mood/anxiety disorders through Postpartum Support International, which allows me to help new parents dealing with perinatal concerns. I use evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and relational psychotherapy, and provide documentation for out-of-network insurance reimbursement and sliding scale rates when needed.
People come to therapy for many different reasons, but, at the core, they are looking for understanding, relief, or growth. Maybe you’re trying to understand why you feel the way you do, or you find yourself caught in the same difficult thoughts again and again. Perhaps you’ve noticed patterns of behavior that seem to work against your own well-being. You might be facing a life transition—chosen or not—and are feeling anxious about what’s next. Or maybe you just feel stuck. Therapy offers a space to slow down and make sense of what’s happening. Gen Z and Millennial women are often bombarded with difficult life transitions such as adulting, relationship distress, quarter-life crises, career pursuits, parenting, caregiving, and more. This can be a lot to manage! Societal pressures plus the changing roles of women in this age group require a focused, feminist, and knowledgable approach. It can be tricky searching for the right therapist, so I appreciate you being here in the first place. My approach is fine-tuned, using radical genuineness, to help you learn how to manage these unique stressors while maintaining authenticity and calm. I am practiced in several targeted therapies that meet the needs of women in transition including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy). In my personal experience, I have come to view change as the only constant, which is why I find great value in being able to help my clients through significant life transitions. Looking back at the clients I've served over the years, I have been able to find something about every one of them that I admire. I love meeting my clients where they are and seeing how I can support their walk through life in a genuine, non-judgmental, and meaningful way. On the outside, it might look like you’re keeping things together—classes, sports, work, relationships—but inside you may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or like something just isn’t feeling right. I work with college students and student-athletes who are navigating stress, anxiety, grief, and past experiences that continue to show up in the present. In therapy, we slow things down, make sense of what you’re carrying, and find practical ways to feel more grounded and steady again. A lot of my work focuses on grief, loss, and unresolved experiences, using EMDR to help process what feels stuck alongside strategies for structure, motivation, and balance. You don’t need the right words or a clear explanation to start—just a sense that something has been weighing on you. Therapy can be a space to sort through it and move forward at a pace that feels manageable. Availability is flexible in evenings and on weekends.
I have been in private practice for twenty years. In that time, I have worked primarily with college and graduate students who are grappling with problems in living - academic, relational, familial, and ontological. I use a combination of techniques, including psychodynamic and mindfulness. My aim is to help people find increased self-acceptance and, simultaneously, to cultivate more energy to change what can be changed in their lives.
Feeling overwhelmed by school, life, or your own mind? You're not alone. I've been helping young adults like you for over 18 years. Whether you're dealing with past trauma, adjusting to a new environment, or struggling with anxiety or depression, I'm here to listen, offer support, and help you find your way. Let's work together to build resilience and navigate whatever challenges come your way
As students or professionals, it is more common than we recognize to be depleted by our daily routine, school or family; to experience self doubt, become overwhelmed or to live with ongoing stress/trauma. Without an opportunity for mental restoration we can become burnt out or disconnected by persistent feelings of depression, anxiety, frustration, apathy, grief or even chronic pain and illness. My aim for each client is to help you develop a greater sense of self-awareness, balance and control over your life. Even if you aren't quite sure of what it is you need - we'll figure it out together. I use a mixture of mixture of traditional therapeutic approaches and Nature Based Therapy (NBT), done either outdoors or in combination with telehealth. This could look as simple as a walk in a park or with more, immersive sensory experiences in nature to get your body in motion and feeling more alive. The ultimate goal is to reduce stress and increase your social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.

We are a team of licensed mental health counselors who have joined together to increase the access to mental health counseling services in our community. We sought out a space in the community where we could offer the services we are trained to provide. From the windows of our offices, you can see a blossoming cherry tree. We adopted this tree as a symbol of our work because it reminds us of the ways that being open to change leads to resilience. ompassionate and thoughtful individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. We each have unique skills and and experience. We love what we do, and we do it with passion.
