My passion is for helping people grow their self-confidence, improve communication skills, and build resilience. I work with teens and adults who are experiencing mental health distress, feel stuck and are looking to make changes to experience more joy in life. Through working with me, clients enhance their emotion regulation, establish new effective coping skills, and heal past trauma. LQBGTIA+ issues, recovery maintenance, anxiety and depression are common reason people seek treatment with me. My focus is to help individuals heal and progress through identifying their inner strengths. This is accomplished by providing an open space to hear your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan to help you achieve your goals. I am also a LGBTQIA+ allied therapist so I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment to everyone who comes to see me.
You’re already doing something hard just by being here. Reaching out for support isn’t easy—especially when life feels overwhelming and everything inside you feels tangled. It’s not just one thing. It’s everything. Confusion, stress, heartbreak, fear, loneliness, sadness, anger—sometimes all at once. And when you’ve been through difficult experiences, it makes sense that this has become your normal. But you’re tired of pretending you’re okay. Tired of holding it all together while quietly falling apart. When was the last time you felt present in your own life? Confident in who you are? Or even just able to slow down and take care of yourself without guilt? What if you didn’t have to keep pushing your feelings down or hiding from them? What if you could actually understand them—and feel more at ease in your own mind and body? I specialize in working with young women who feel overwhelmed by life, relationships, and their own thoughts—often shaped by both past and present pain. Together, we create space to process what you’ve been carrying so you can find clarity, steadiness, and a stronger sense of yourself again.
Are you in the eye of a storm, grappling with a significant life transition? Whether stepping into a new job, welcoming a child, facing a divorce, or processing grief after a loss, you’re not alone. The aftermath of Hurricane Helene may amplify these feelings, reminding us that grief is a natural part of any transformation. Seeking support is a courageous step toward clarity. Together, we’ll explore your emotions and uncover what you truly need on this journey. With over a decade of experience, I specialize in grief, trauma, and life transitions. I am passionate in supporting individuals facing domestic violence, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and complex trauma, particularly folx within the LGBTQ+ community. My trauma-focused approach combines Internal Family Systems, Narrative Therapy, and Attachment Theory with strengths-based, expressive arts, feminist, and existential perspectives. My goal is to help you reframe your narrative, empowering you to embrace your authenticity and drive positive change. Let’s embark on this journey of self-discovery and healing together. It would be an honor to walk beside you as you navigate and rebuild from life’s challenges. If this sounds like a fit, please reach out to schedule a consultation!

As a psychologist, one of the biggest part of my roles is to aid people with learning and understanding strengths/weakness and how to use these to increase goals they want and to reduce the negative impact on their life. I use testing and evaluations to understand and diagnosis the negative impact areas. Psychological evaluations are helpful when wanting to know your diagnosis, needing school accommodations related to mental health, ADHD evaluations to just name a few. My counseling specialty is with substance use and addiction, and even more specific in that field I enjoy counseling those with both mental health and addiction disorders. Many times specialized care is needed when you have both as focusing on one and not the other can lead to relapse in both disorders.
College brings a lot—stress, pressure, tough emotions, and sometimes habits you’re not proud of. I support students navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, and self‑esteem challenges. We’ll focus on what matters most to you and help you feel more balanced and confident. You don’t have to show up perfect or know exactly what you want to say—just come as you are. If you’re curious about getting support, I’m here to help you take the next step.
NuMind welcomes students of all ages and backgrounds. We are invested in assisting with your healthy matriculation through your studies, and recognize that your mental well-being is vital to that process. Our owner, Dr. D'Angelo Lewis (Dr. Dee) was a college professor and advisor, as well as a Program Evaluator for UNC General Administration. He is very familiar with the rigors of higher education and the struggles that come along with the journey to graduating. As an undergraduate he not only attended school full-time, but did so with no home address, no financial support and with a toddler in tow. Imagine the dorm being your only home and feeding a child in the cafeteria! I promise that whatever you are enduring, Dr. Dee can relate and help you move your life forward.
I provide individual and family therapy to adolescents & young adults (ages 13-30). I treat anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger, family conflict, mild substance use disorders, and oppositional defiant disorder. Safe. Confident. Peaceful. Free. Empowered. I believe we all strive to feel this, yet at times life gets in the way and we feel stuck, unable to move forward. My goal as a therapist is to create a safe and encouraging environment, while providing you with the tools you need to begin the healing process. I believe in helping my clients find the answers they already have access to. As a therapist, I strive to join with my client to understand their path to success. Ultimately, a major goal is not to tell someone what to do but to help them decide what they want to do and how to get there. I look forward to working with you.
Life can be relentless and present challenges that feel overwhelming. It takes strength to ask for help and courage to become vulnerable with someone new. I recognize this and will work at your pace to form a trusting relationship with you where you can feel safe, validated, and respected. I have experience working with teens and adults who find themselves worrying about the future or things they cannot control. I have worked with people who are processing past hurtful and stressful life events so they can find a sense of strength and security in the present. I enjoy helping people see their worth so their self-talk transforms. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to help clients explore the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while learning skills to better navigate their daily life. I also incorporate mindfulness exercises to build a stronger mind-body connection and stay grounded in the present moment. You are worthy of having an unbiased space where you feel safe to process your experiences.
I work with students, adults, couples, and veterans who are seeking respite and levity for whatever issues they may find themselves mired within. I believe that healing cannot occur in isolation and the role of therapist is to serve as a guide and confidant in the healing process. I will help you in discovering your own wellness touchstones that will assist in promoting your unique therapeutic needs. Some of the therapeutic interventions and modalities that I base my work on include client/person centered therapy, expressive arts therapy, substance abuse and addictions counseling, mindfulness based approaches, trauma focused therapy, men’s work, and psychodynamic theory. As your therapist, I will assist you in your personal process of healing and self-discovery. I look forward to hearing from you!
