Anxiety, depression and trauma can have a ripple effect throughout your whole life felt far beyond the obvious symptoms themselves. Perhaps you experience a paralyzing level of perfectionism ruled by lists and tasks or maybe you overschedule yourself to avoid thinking and feeling. Trauma can manifest itself in many ways and can have a significant impact on your daily life. In my practice, I specialize in working with young adults, individuals with childhood trauma and adult survivors of sexual and gender based violence with a focus on navigating daily life, relationships and boundaries to overcome these difficulties. I utilize a trauma informed approach and empower clients to be the expert of their own experience. My role is to provide the tools and support needed to reach collaboratively set goals. I pull from various evidence based practices to create a unique treatment approach for each client. Additionally, I'm in training to be an AASECT certified sex therapist. While I speak German, Armenian and Farsi, all services are provided in English. Therapy is a unique and highly vulnerable environment that can be intimidating to navigate at first. I am happy to schedule an initial free 15 minute consultation call to discuss your concerns and to determine if I am the best fit for your needs.

I'm a licensed psychotherapist based in California. I am first generation Mexican American and have lived in Los Angeles all my life. I am a bilingual, Spanish/English, speaking therapist; although I gravitate towards speaking Spanglish. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from USC. I received my B.S. in Sociology and Criminology from Mount St. Mary’s University. I have been working as a therapist for the past six years; where I have supported others in their mental health journey. Throughout my career as a therapist, I have worked serving low income communities and minorities in the public mental health sector. I have experience working with individuals struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, mania, and psychosis. I am passionate about working with adults navigating life transitions who feel overwhelmed and confused when thinking about their future. They often question that they are “not good enough” or worry about living up to other people’s expectations. We can work together in finding your identity, self confidence, motivation, and drive to face your challenges.

I am a highly trained, seasoned therapist in adolescent and adult mental health across the lifespan. Areas of focus include college students, physicians, lawyers and other professionals in high stress careers, reproductive psychology and parent coaching. I support teens and college students navigate the extraordinary phase of identity formation, and manage family expectations, academic stress, transition to college and the oft experienced "graduation blues," imposter syndrome, social anxiety and relationship difficulties. My therapeutic approach is solution focused, strengths based and skills oriented, viewed through a systemic & culturally responsive lens. Expertly and gently, I empower you with healthy coping skills starting with the very first session, so you can begin to find relief right away. I offer both short term and long term therapy to clients across California. My work is grounded in neuroscience, integrating evidence-based modalities. Together, with mindfulness and self compassion, we'll help you gain healthy emotional and relational skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) & Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) so you can move forward.

I have personal, lived experience with all of my primary areas of focus. I have a wide array of specialties because life presented many unexpected changes that resulted in a fulfilling career. I remember feeling out of place throughout my childhood, but I didn't know how to convey my feelings. My childhood was always unpredictable and chaotic so I was able to recognize those things in others. I didn't understand what I was feeling at the time, but I remember thinking, "how is no one seeing this or saying anything?". From a young age I had a deep sense of connection to the unmet needs of others. I was always told that I was "resilient" but I didn't want to have to be that, it didn't feel fair. Through my own personal growth I learned how to transform my emotional wounds into a way to serve others. We can't undo what was done to us, but we can take charge of how our needs are met from this point forward. I am a Depth psychotherapist and strongly rely upon experiential therapy. This means that you can expect to address the underlying deeper issues. One of the strongest components of the therapeutic process is receiving validation and genuine understanding. This results in a vulnerable and open relationship between the client and the clinician. I have a diverse background and support issues in my practice, that I have personally experienced. I have worked in a variety of mental health, rehabilitation, and addiction settings, including both: in-patient psychiatric hospitals, treatment facilities, residential, and outpatient programs, as well as caregiving facilities for persons experiencing disabilities. I spent the first part of my career as a clinical case manager working with the homeless, veterans, and persons experiencing addiction and acute mental illness. My practice focuses on assisting individuals in establishing a centered approach to their lives by digging up the past and connecting to their core values. Some of the most important aspects in my life include: advocacy, rehabilitation, fostered autonomy, and being in-tune with the needs of a wide variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I rely on your intuition and guide you to reaching your empowered self. Together we will connect to your mind, body, and unmet emotional needs. I will help you recognize and understand how your emotions impact your thoughts and decisions. I will help you develop awareness of your internal thoughts, foster insight into your body’s responses, and teach you to listen through somatic awareness.

I’m Dr. Abu-Rus, a clinical psychologist available to see patients anywhere in California. I know reaching out for therapy can feel strange—like acknowledging something’s wrong when you’ve spent so much energy trying to hold it together. As a mom, USAF Veteran, and psychologist, I work with people navigating trauma, new parenthood, or depression that doesn’t always make sense on the surface. You might feel irritable, numb, anxious, or unsure of who you are anymore. You’re not too much. You’re not broken. And you don’t have to carry this alone. I specialize in trauma, postpartum stress, and depression that feels heavy or hard to explain. I use proven therapies like CPT, PE, ACT, and IPT to help you feel safer, more grounded, and more in control. My approach is structured but deeply human—tailored to what matters most to you. If you’re feeling stuck, disconnected, or just ready for something to shift, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can see if we’re a good fit. Sometimes it takes the gentle mirroring of another person to help see what is no longer working in our lives. Habits formed to survive difficult childhoods may be wrecking havoc. Communication styles may be sabotaging love. We may feel overwhelmed or face a big life transition. I work closely with my clients to increase skills. I love to teach about nervous system regulation and how you can stay calm and effective during conflict, difficult conversations, and life transitions. From therapy you’ll learn to operate from wholeness and authenticity, and gain acceptance for self/others. In addition to being a therapist, I formerly taught high school Seniors. I loved working with Seniors and helping them mark the transition from high school to college as their own unique rite of passage. I know this transition and college can be quite stressful and overwhelming. Together we can explore and discover more of who you are during this important developmental phase of life. I am passionate about helping people feel a greater sense of connection and meaning in their lives, and can utilize a variety of interventions and practices. My style is warm, direct, humorous, playful, curious, and empathetic. I offer a free 20 min consultation to ensure we are a good fit and to answer any questions. Feel free to reach out to schedule that. Some of my areas of expertise are trauma, OCD, anxiety, depression, and life transitions.

College and young adulthood can be an exciting but stressful time. People may see you as focused and driven, but inside you feel more scattered and anxious than they realize. Perfectionism and an internal critic run your schedule. School, work, relationships, finding time for yourself—you feel like it's all too much, but you also worry you're not doing enough. You often say "Yes" when you want to say, "No, I can't handle one more thing!" Trying to manage ADHD, trauma, or just your day-to-day mood on top of everything feels extra exhausting. You wish you could feel balanced, confident, more at ease... maybe even kinder to yourself. I can help you navigate the "typical" aspects of young adulthood that are actually more challenging than they look. We'll focus on what's most important to you, whether that's exploring internal dynamics or learning new skills to cope with the daily tough stuff. My therapy style is interactive, collaborative, and inclusive—both tears and laughter are always welcome. I know starting therapy can feel tough, but finding a great therapist shouldn't be. To that end, I'm happy to offer you a free consultation to answer your questions, connect a bit, and see if I'm a good fit for your therapy needs. Please reach out to schedule a call!

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Los Angeles, CA

My name is Kimberley Durr, and I am a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from Rush University College of Nursing in Chicago, IL and am board certified. I evaluate and treat mental health disorders across the lifespan with medication and have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I am most experienced in mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, and schizophrenia but have experience in other neurodevelopmental, eating, substance use disorders. In my practice I approach each person individually and holistically. I incorporate his/her life's narrative and preferences when developing treatment plans and provide psychoeducation regarding my diagnostic impression. I offer a compassionate, gentle approach to patient care and provide guidance that is evidence based. I became a nurse simply because I like helping those in need. It brings me great joy and satisfaction to know I am making a difference in someone's life. I eventually found a position working in mental health and never looked back. I was a psychiatric nurse for a few years before pursuing my role as a nurse practitioner. This field can be challenging but rewarding, and I am determined to improve the lives of others. This first session involves getting to know each other and gathering history and collateral information when needed. I develop a case formulation, provide psychoeducation, and offer medication if appropriate. Sometimes labs are also ordered.
