I have been a therapist since 2004 working in both private and group practice with adults and children before joining with Kaiser Permanente psychiatry in 2012, recently returned to sole private practice in 2021. I earned my clinical social work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, which was awarded a top 5 ranking in the field. I additionally have completed post-graduate studies at University of Virginia Mary Ainsworth Clinic and American School of Clinical Psychology in Washington DC. While I enjoy use of various therapy methods, including CBT and ACT to treat anxiety and depression, I have a particular passion in the use of EMDR for trauma and stress disorders. I consider myself very privileged to have trained with and sought consultation with Andrew Leeds, who is an EMDRIA board member and foundational researcher in the field. .Many of my clients have reported this technique to be a fast and highly effective treatment that they wish they had considered sooner. Please feel free to look over the links regarding the high-effectiveness of EMDR and to reach me with any questions. Additionally, I have extensive expertise in the area of dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) another great therapy style that I can strongly recommend, I was very fortunate to be part of a 2012 Ben Hudnell Grant to develop a DBT program for Kaiser Permanente’s Psychiatry Department, initially at the Washington DC clinic and then later heading the program for KP Psychiatry in Pleasanton, CA; running these programs from 2015-2021. I find the coping skills taught in DBT to be essential, not only for reducing suffering and problem behaviors, but for helping to create a life worth living. While DBT was initially developed to assist those with Borderline Personality Disordered traits, it has broadened to include helping those looking to manage with mood swings, anger, relationship problems, binge eating, bipolar disorders, anxiety and depression, as well as assisting those is continuing recovery from addictions. I especially recommend DBT for those who struggle with anger or shutting down, as relationship dynamics are really where difficult can present. I teach both basic DBT and advanced practice, whether your new to process or experienced I am happy to support your process in session. There is the hope to include group education and process, in the future, pandemic needs permitting. I see my clients online via secure telehealth on Mondays and Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays are available for in-person for those full-vaccinated and without COVID exposure concerns. You may schedule a free 20-minute telehealth consult via website below.

I am a somatic psychotherapist and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress and trauma. Are you feeling worried all the time, have difficulty resting, or imagine worse case scenarios too often? Being in state of anxiety can interfere with focus, connection, compassion and curiosity. If you have been feeling this way for too long, it may be a sign that you need support beyond talking to a good friend or spending time with family. If you have been through a traumatic event, and you are not able to talk about it, or when you have it has not helped bring a big enough sense of relief, you may need a trauma informed approach to therapy. I can help you learn gentle and effective ways to process big emotions and scary experiences. I offer a body oriented (somatic) approach where I help draw attention to the mind-body connection and guide you to access the resources within and around you.

If you are struggling with any of these, you are in the right place...people-pleasing, inner criticism, addictive behaviors, trauma, challenges setting and enforcing boundaries, worrying what others think about you, challenges in relationships, low self-esteem, worry of failure, high self-expectations, overfilling your plate and stress, detachment from self with substances, food, work, people, etc., and feeling powerless and alone. And, here you are seeking help, which takes courage. I recommend trying out multiple therapists to find the best fit, starting with consultations. Contact me for a 20 minute consultation, free of charge. Through compassion, authenticity, validation, and creativity, I create a protected space for healing, expression, and self-exploration. I also use mindfulness, expressive arts therapy, strength-based, and trauma-based approaches. I have a life-long commitment to social justice and I continuously work towards cultural humility. I am cis-gendered Chicana/White & LGBTQI with a lived experience of healing & recovery. I’m a counselor with a deep commitment to helping people navigate the complex, often painful moments that life can bring. Life doesn’t always unfold the way we imagined. Struggles like anxiety, addiction, or simply feeling stuck can leave us overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. If you’re experiencing that, you’re not alone. I’m here to help you uncover what might be holding you back—whether it’s unresolved trauma, the stress of change, or a buildup of emotional weight that’s become too heavy to carry on your own. My therapeutic approach draws from depth psychology, with a strong emphasis on emotional processing and attachment. Together, we’ll work toward building a more compassionate relationship with yourself—one that creates room for healing, growth, and renewed possibility. I hold two Master’s degrees in Counseling Psychology—one from the University of Kansas and another from Pacifica Graduate Institute—and my approach is grounded in both academic training and a genuine passion for this work. I believe that meaningful therapy starts with feeling safe, seen, and supported. The process of change can be challenging, but it doesn’t have to be something you face alone. I’m here to walk alongside you as we gently explore the patterns and experiences that have shaped your life—and to help you move toward the life you want to create. If you’re curious about working together, I offer a free 15-minute consultation by phone. It’s a chance for us to connect and see if we’re a good fit.

Is there something you've always hesitated to say out loud, because if you did, nothing would stay the same? Or… Like in that serenity prayer, are you looking for the difference between what you can change and what you have to accept? Serenity's hard to come by in these ominous times, and certainty can be fleeting. This is your one shot here, so claim your place, speak your truth. Let’s figure out what you need and what you already have, so you can accept yourself even when it’s hard, and participate fully in your own life. What you believe is your Kryptonite may also be the root of your superpower. I'd even bet on it. Therapy with me can be talky, weepy, big laughs, companionable silence. It's my job to understand your world as YOU see it. I’m devoted to helping you figure out how you feel—and what to do—about what matters most in your life. I'll be listening for the stories you carry around in your head, and whether they're kind, whether they serve or oppress you. My default position is to accept and support you as you are, without judgment. We’ll make use of my training, life experience, imagination and intellect to gain perspective on your relationships, past, and present. We’ll experiment with ways for you to manage difficult emotions, feel compassion toward yourself and others, and live with integrity and purpose.

Hi there! I work with individuals who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, weighed down by depression, or are struggling with lingering effects of trauma. Some may feel stuck in negative thought patterns, disconnected from themselves and others, or unsure how to break free from cycles of self-doubt and fear. Many of my clients come to therapy wanting to develop skills to navigate life's challenges, build self-esteem, foster healthier relationships, and heal. Most of my work has been with young adults navigating life stressors. I foster inclusivity and take an integrative approach to therapy in order to tailor the therapy process to best suit you. I understand the next step can seem daunting. Feel free to reach out, and we can take that next step together. Whether you're seeking relief from overwhelming emotions or looking to break free from past trauma, I’m here to support you on your journey to healing, resiliency, and self-discovery.

We are more disconnected than ever - from our communities, our purpose, our families, our partners, and our selves. The work of connection happens within you, and it ripples outward, nourishing connectivity and meaning in the parts of your life that really matter. It's a radical act to invest in connecting, and to invest in your relationship with yourself. As a therapist, I am warm, curious, and non judgmental. I am interested in challenging you gently (or not gently if that's what you'd prefer), exploring different perspectives, and supporting you in zooming out and tuning in. My approach is deeply compassionate, sometimes whimsical, and tailored to your needs and goals. Let's dive in! I would love to connect and to see if we are good fit. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a free introductory consultation. My practice is through the Center for Mindful Psychotherapy and I am supervised by Margaret Goodwin, LMFT 103426.
